Games with random purchases now receive this new label. For some time, the Entertainment Software Rating Board (or ESRB) plays the name "in-game purchases" with microtransactions. Now they have announced the introduction of a new variant of this label, which relates specifically to games with random purchases - such as prey boxes or gacha mechanics - and as "in-game purchases (including random objects)" (see figure below) . The original label "In-Game Purchases" will continue to be used for games with microtransactions, including DLC, extensions, cosmetic purchases, and the like. In the meantime, the new label "In-Game purchases (including random objects)" will only play "playing" purchases with random elements such as prey boxes, gacha games, item or card packages, price wheels, treasure chests and more.
